I think Matt’s Q1 should be named “R2-D2″, since he is the Yoda of Mobile Tech.

I’m going to suggest the Korean name “Soo”010536

Just like automobiles tech should be assigned female names. So I’m gonna say Layla

I’m going to suggest the Korean name “Sooâ€

Hey guys love the podcast, for Matt’s Q1 I thought you should name it “Nr. 2″, which is German for Number 2.
Comment by IrrelevantPodcast — September 29, 2006 @ 1:15 am
I’m thinking, it’s really a wonder any of these things work at all, but because and when they do, it’s just magical. I think the name should be MERLIN.

I (actually my wife thinks)think it should be QT1 as in Cute1.
Comment by Travis Carnahan — September 29, 2006 @ 11:08 am
Hi, I am going to suggest a name. I think he should name his Q1 “QHEW” made up from the word “PHEW”. Basically this is exactly what his Q1 must be thinking as:
1)It has lasted this long in his arsenal of gadgets without getting sidelined/sold or exchanged &
2) Nokia have not made a UMPC yet
Comment by Neil Ingram — September 29, 2006 @ 11:28 am
I would name it SamMee (pronounced Sammy).
First because it’s a cute pet name. Second because it’s obviously refers to a Samsung product. Third because “mee” is actually a Korean word. Depending on tone, it could mean many things — one of which is beautiful, which is of course what the Q1 is
Comment by Ada — September 29, 2006 @ 4:57 pm
How about Ratbags?
Comment by Walter — September 29, 2006 @ 5:23 pm
Without a doubt, ‘Lilith’ is the most suitable name.
The forebear of the Succubi, evil tempresses, Lilith preyed on hoards of innocent men, lured from their placid existences by her inarguable beauty, by the promise of perfection. The Q1, forebear of the UMPC, directly parallels Lilith’s fables.
Seducing withdrawn, disallusioned notebook users with it’s unrestrained elegance, inherent in even it’s most fundamental design elements. Bewitched by the serene, flexible user experiences, free from the chains of unbending notebooks, the modern man is able to finally realize the previously unrealizable. It’s appeal is undeniable; There is no escape.
Incase you have a distaste of ‘L’ names (odd, but for some, true), ‘Nahema’ was the fabled queen of the Succubi. It works almost as well.
Enjoy your purchase! I look forward to hearing more about your experiences.

Computers are male!
Qwon? (Q1 pronounced quickly sounds like “kwon,” like in the Korean sport Taekwondo. Of course, since “kwon” means “to strike or smash with the hand,” this could be an unlucky name, unless you think a Q1 in your hands could help you defeat your competition.)
Sam Qwon?
Mobilenator?
Saminator Q1000?
Roddenberry? (remember Yeoman Rand and Uhura with the slates?)
eSQuire?
Freedom?
PinoQo? (Pin-oh-Q-oh, no strings attached!)
Comment by MiniMage — September 30, 2006 @ 5:30 pm
Ok, now that name that just makes sense is just “Q”. From of course StarTrek. The cosmic entity from the Q Continuum.
Comment by Telengard — October 1, 2006 @ 5:17 pm
Samgraal – Samsung Grail
This refers to “Sangraal, the Holy Grail”
Comment by Nathan I — October 2, 2006 @ 1:06 am
I like Quigley – I figure it’s got to start with a “Q” and Quigley Down Under is one of my all time favorite movies!
Comment by Brian — October 2, 2006 @ 1:45 am
My suggestion is to call it Shadow. Since you’ve been using it as your primary computer, it’s always with you (yeah, just overlook the fact that shadows aren’t around in sunny weather…
). Also, Shadow sounds kind of mysterious, fitting the still-sort-of-rare status of seeing UMPCs “in the wild” (at least that’s the case around here…even for regular Tablet PCs!).
Comment by Cheryl — October 2, 2006 @ 3:37 am
How about a name someone from the Coast Guard would recognize “Eddie” According to a 2002 article quote “Eddies are small features with a big impact,” said co-author Dr. Yi Chao, a JPL oceanographer. (http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/releases/2002/release_2002_175.html)
I think the discription fits the UMPC pretty well.
Comment by Mike Harrison — October 2, 2006 @ 7:31 pm
I like the name Q-Tip. He or she is a Q1, and you use Windows Tip, and the tip of your finger.
Q-Tip
Very simple.

I would name Matt’s Q1 Phantom.
From Webster’s dictionary
Phantom – APPARITION b : something elusive or visionary
It sounds cool, you think of music and also a super hero. It would go nicely with James and Kevin’s caractures or cartoon figures as well.

Vern (aka “Mini Me”)
Comment by Bill — October 6, 2006 @ 1:49 pm
Nacho (as in “hands off, that’s Nacho PC”)
Comment by Bill — October 6, 2006 @ 1:51 pm
Andy (as in Warhol, since 15 minutes of “fame” is probably all your Q1 will enjoy before you get interested in another device)
Comment by Bill — October 6, 2006 @ 1:54 pm
Macslate Pro (since that name has sadly not been taken by $J and Co.)
Comment by Bill — October 6, 2006 @ 1:57 pm
Uma (why not? she’s hot, she’s handy with tools, those “Kill Bill” movies give the name a bit of “I run windows but I’m not a Microsoft yes man” flair, it’s an unusual name, and it’s a female name, which seems to be a requirement for some).
P.S. I’m going back to work now.

Qbacca or Qwie – named after Han Solo’s sidekick in Star Wars, since Matt is also known as Palmsolo in the mobile world.
Comment by Ponce — October 6, 2006 @ 5:49 pm
Frasier Crane (since it is an origami device and what’s the most popular origami thingy “the paper crane”)

“The Bachelor” – because face it, computers aren’t exactly chick magnets.
Comment by Bill — October 11, 2006 @ 6:11 pm
“Nerdy Spice” – The other spice girl that never had her 15 minutes of fame. I think her name was Andy…wait that was another entry.
Comment by Bill — October 11, 2006 @ 6:15 pm
Suggestion – name should end in a vowel. This is an important kid naming tip too. You have to have a name that carries when you yell outside for your kid to come in for dinner. Could come in handy if you lose your Q1 too. Consider “Lucy” — just because I always loved it when Ricky Ricardo called out “Luuuuuucy” whenever he discovered something that she’d done.
Comment by Bill — October 11, 2006 @ 6:18 pm
I posted this to the jkontherun site first, but wanted to make sure it got officially entered. So here it is again.
OK here is my entries…
1. Black Knight
2. Ultrasolo
3. Origamine
4. Hero
5. Samsolo
6. MMPC

Love your podcast.
How about Quantum.
Comment by Chris — October 12, 2006 @ 11:58 am
I thought of one on the way in to work this morning. It’s fitting for someone on the MoTR team to name their UMPC “MOTheR”. That way, Matt could tell people, “just a minute, let me consult mother” or “let me check with mother to see where I’m supposed to be next.”
Comment by Brian — October 12, 2006 @ 12:22 pm
I think that you should name your UMPC “Meep” from the cartoon character, the Road Runner. There’s an implcation of part road warrior, extreme portability, and it’s pretty fast. But most importantly, it’s a pretty cool, pretty geeky name.
Comment by Gene — October 12, 2006 @ 1:06 pm
If you are looking for a cool name, try Vancouver or “Van” for short.
If you are looking for an endearing name, try “Millie” with its roots back to Miller.
If You are looking for a “Q” name, try “Quin” short for the quintessential mobile computer or “Quill” referencing a writing machine.(personally, Q names are Kind of kwerky)
Good luck!

Demetri just clued me in. Here are my entries:
Try one of these:
1. Obi-wan
2. OB-1
3. Objuan

“Cosmo” – everybody’s favorite Seinfeld character (aka Kramer).
Comment by bill — October 12, 2006 @ 11:33 pm
As it’s a UMPC i’m partial to the name Uma (as in Uma Thurman).
You could always get into the David Letterman Oscar joke when people ask about your cool UMPC/gadget … You would say something with a little bit of Letterman-ish flair “Uuuuummmmaaa … meet Ooooprrah! … Ooooprrahh meet Uuuuuummmaaa!”
Anyways, that’s what i’d do if I had one … just to be silly. That always cracks me up.
Great show boys!
Comment by Oddie — October 14, 2006 @ 10:37 am
Having got inspiration from personalised number plates, and the fact that it sounds like the Q1 is now part of the family (for all the guys), I’d go for Q1M (Q1 Miller, pronounced KIM).
Of course, expanding that to the rest of the team, you’d end up with QU1K for James (although Flash is close enough) and Q1T for Kevin (although the Knight Rider references are too easy…)
Keep up the good work guys – really enjoying the shows.
Comment by Nick Ross — October 14, 2006 @ 12:10 pm
